How To Find Seated Liberty Coins For Sale

The Seated Liberty is a beautiful coin that was initially struck to the value of a dollar. It was minted between 1840 and 1873 and designed by Christian Gobrecht. The Seated Coinage dollar was the last dollar coin to be struck before the 1873 Coinage Act. The obverse of the coin is the same as the Gobrecht dollar, but the reverse shows a heraldic eagle instead.
The Seated Liberty silver dollar was first struck in Philadelphia, but New Orleans was added to this in 1846. Due to the gold rush, the price of silver shot up meaning people start to hoard and melt silver coins.
This was stopped by the Coinage Act, which made silver coins lower in weight, with exception of dollar coins. However, if people wanted bullion to be struck into coins, they would have to make additional payments.
The Seated Liberty changed somewhat in 1866, when "In God We Trust" was also added to the coin. Mintage of the coin itself stopped in 1873. There was some disgruntlement because the price of silver suddenly started dropping again. Hence, the Bland-Allison Act was passed in 1878 and in response to this, the Morgan dollar started to be minted.
If you are interested in buying the Seated Liberty dollar, you have quite a lot of options available to you. Whether you look for it for its numismatic value or just because you enjoy collecting coins is irrelevant. You need to make sure that you are buying something that is worth your money and this can be quite difficult. Many people would choose to buy their coins online and this is not a bad idea, so long as you know what you are doing.
It is very easy to counterfeit coins, including the Seated Liberty silver dollar. Unfortunately, there are a number of unscrupulous people out there who are involved in forging silver plated coins. Some of these are such good copies that you may struggle to see whether or not you purchased a real one. Don't buy silver coins from bidding websites, for starters. It would be ludicrous for anybody to sell their silver coins for less than their actual value, so this is a good indicator of a fake. Check whether you receive a certificate of authenticity with your purchase as well. Lastly, a number of online websites are based in this country and they are monitored by the government. These are the ones you should try to find.
